What information belongs in a product description?

Start with a compact product brief: product type, intended use, material, dimensions, compatibility, included quantity, care instructions, and known limitations. If a value is missing, mark it as missing. A template should reveal the gap rather than invent the answer.

Amazon’s own listing guidance emphasizes useful product details and natural use of search terms. Your description should help someone decide whether the product fits their situation. Keyword repetition does not compensate for unclear compatibility or package contents.

Every bracket in the templates below is a placeholder. Replace it with an evidenced product fact or remove the corresponding sentence. Never publish the placeholders themselves.

Product description template for an organizer or storage item

Keep [specific items] together during [real use case].
This [product type] measures [verified dimensions] and uses [verified material].
Inside, [actual compartment or closure details] help you [supported benefit].
The package includes [exact quantity and included parts].
Before ordering, check [fit condition or size limitation].

This pattern answers capacity and fit questions. “Fits every cable and charger” would require evidence for every claimed fit. A more useful sentence names the measured space and lets the buyer compare it with the items they own.

Filled example: a travel cable organizer

Exercise facts: one polyester organizer, 18 × 11 × 4 cm, two internal mesh pockets, one zip closure, cables and chargers not included. These are fictional assumptions for the exercise.

Draft: Keep charging cables and small accessories together in this polyester organizer. Two internal mesh pockets separate smaller pieces, while the zip closure keeps the contents together in your bag. The organizer measures 18 × 11 × 4 cm; compare those dimensions with the items you intend to carry. Includes one organizer. Cables and chargers are not included.

The draft does not infer waterproofing, impact resistance, certification, or compatibility with every charger from the brief.

Before and after: replacing vague product claims

Weak: “The best premium bag for everything.”
More useful: “Organize charging cables and small accessories in separate compartments. Compare the internal measurements with your largest adapter before ordering.”

The revised wording is still a draft, not a factual specification for an actual item. Add only measurements and features supported by your product materials.

Product description template for a compatible accessory

This [accessory] is designed for [verified model or interface].
Check [model number, port type, dimensions, or version] before ordering.
The part uses [verified material or construction] and is intended for [supported use].
Included: [exact parts and quantity].
Not included: [relevant missing component].
Not compatible with: [documented exclusions].

Compatibility often matters more than a broad lifestyle claim. Put the identifying model or interface near the beginning, then separate confirmed fits from exclusions. Do not convert “looks similar” into “compatible”.

If the description mentions another brand, use accurate compatibility wording and follow the applicable listing rules. Do not imply that an independent accessory is manufactured, certified, or endorsed by that brand without support.

Product description template for a household item or set

[Product type] for [intended household task].
Made from [verified material], with [documented construction detail].
Each piece measures [verified dimensions].
You receive [number] pieces: [complete contents].
Use and care: [supported instructions].
Please note: [relevant limitation or item not included].

For a set, make the quantity and contents easy to find. Distinguish the size of one piece from the size of a package or assembled product. Use specific care instructions from the product documentation instead of inventing cleaning, heat, or dishwasher compatibility.

For products involving safety, health, or regulated performance, a copy template is not substantiation. Use the required verified product information and category-specific process.

Review product facts, benefits, and relevant keywords

  1. Lead with the job. State what the item is and the relevant use case in the first sentence.
  2. Pair features with supported benefits. Describe the actual construction before explaining what it helps the buyer do.
  3. Use natural search language. Include a relevant phrase where it makes sense, then use specific product details rather than restating the phrase.
  4. Check the uncomfortable facts. Exclusions, dimensions, required accessories, and package quantity prevent a polished description from becoming misleading.
  5. Read it aloud. Remove repeated promises, unexplained jargon, and sentences that do not help a purchase decision.

A manual keyword check can be simple: write down the product type and a few important attributes from the title, then confirm the description explains them accurately. This is a writing aid, not an official search-ranking score or an instruction to insert every possible synonym.

Format and export your completed product description

Bring the filled draft to the description editor. Keep a backup before changing formatting. Review the field-specific HTML guide before retaining markup, and the character-count guide before relying on a local counter.

The current templates are text you can select and copy manually. They do not overwrite a draft or load sample claims into the editor automatically. Inspect the actual saved listing after you publish, including its mobile view.
